I found some woodhouse toads, 11 altogether. A bunch were in a landscaping area & would have been killed, a few others were at the lake being tortured by young boys - and the last one we got is a bigggg boy, found him in a drain with a friend & were admiring him until suddenly water started spilling into it. We managed to grab him, but his friend was swept under the water Sad

Anyway... anyone know anything about these little guys? I started collecting them a couple months ago (lol) & they've been eating crickets. I gave them sand because they like to bury themselves. I can't bring myself to release them yet because winter is on it's way, I wouldn't want them to be in an unfamiliar area & freeze to death.

I've read that they can eat mealworms but mine don't touch them. Quite frankly, I find crickets a pain in the butt to keep (I think I'm allergic to the dust they leave behind when they die! Ick! or something) and EXPENSIVE!!! Am I supposed to chop up the mealies? Can I give them like... earthworms?

This sounds like a great question for Reptiwife but I haven't seen her on in a long time.  From a couple sites I found they said they eat virtually any insect in the wild.  One zoo site they fed theirs crickets, mealworms and earthworms.

Thanks for the suggestions - I think I've read the same exact article you're talking about. Someone on Yahoo! Answers told me they'll eat any insect, just as long as their prey is moving. So then I got some ideas - ladybugs etc. which I can usually find at the garden store, hopefully they're still available this time of year. Someone also suggested Superworms, since they felt that mealworms didn't move enough. I'll try that too.
