I was wondering if any one has ever owned one. I'm currently looking into getting an African Pygmy Hedgehog. Though, I was wondering what other people have experienced with them, if any of you have ever owned one, or even knew some one who did.

Regardless, I'll share a couple pictures of this cutie!

WWW

my friend has a hedgehog named luke (skywalker). they're pretty cute little guys. luke can be cranky and a bit huffy if he's woken up, but he's fun to walk run around. their poop is alot like that of a cat or dog, since they're omniverous/insectivores - i think? i've seen people get really creative with their cages, using large storage bins as cages so that the hedgie has alot of floor space without the risk of falling off anything. towels seemed to be a popular flooring/bedding. i think they can be litter trained too.

if you ever have a specific question, i could ask my friend for you. she's only had luke for about a year but she has done her research Smiley

here's some web-sites for ya:

Thanks a lot for the websites. They're quite useful!

And by the way I meant my sister is looking into getting one.  Tongue But I'm just trying to help her out.

The storage bin cages seem particularly interesting to me. I've seen some really cute ones, and they're really quite cheap! Towels are always an easy bedding, because you can just wash them, and reuse them, and it's not as messy as wood shavings and stuff. My sister is talking about having me sew liners like the ones near the bottom of this page: http://www.angelfire.com/wa2/comemeetmyfamily/CaringForYourHedgehog.html Though, she's thinking about getting patterned fabrics, to add a bit more fun to it.  Tongue

Still, it looks like it's final, as she talked to a hedgie breeder last night, and she's going to be getting a 4 month old little girl next week, or possibly this weekend. Basically as soon as she gets her new home set up. I can't wait to meet the little girl!

I have thought about having a hedgehog someday, I think I say that about every pet, lol.  Anyways I was going to recommend http://www.chins-n-quills.com/forums also, I used to go there a lot for chinchilla information.  Tell her congrats, I can't wait to see some photos Smiley

Heh, I have to say, I also think about having every pet at some point. Except, I know I don't really want a snake, because I don't want to feed mice. It just creeps me out. xD But, any ways, I'll send my sister the link to that forum. I'm sure she'll appreciate the advice she can get there!

I went to her house last night, and we went shopping, and got a cage set up. So, tonight we're going to go pick her up! In fact, I need to leave soon, because she lives an hour and a half away, and then the breeder is two hours away. Which puts us at the breeder at about 6:30-7, then have to go home. But, it'll be worth while! I'll probably have pictures of her tomorrow. Grin

So how's her Hedgie doing? Did it all go well?

My dad wants a hedgehog, so I am doing research for him. I've read at least 5 to 10 websites on them already, but I want to talk to someone who owns them too... Is there anything at all (other than the basic feeding, caring, etc) that you think I should know about them? I want to be fully informed and ready if/when the time comes. Smiley
