what do you keep them in? what the climite have to be like? sorry but the more i see them the more i wounder about them, see we don't have them here in minnesota ,all we have are the water snails.
Well, since they are native to this area, I just keep them outside in an old guinea pig cage. I covered the top of the cage (the metal bars) with with a mesh screen type material so they can't slip through the bars. In the winter, I bring them in and put them in an unused room so that their ground doesn't freeze (I keep the room cool, though, so their cycle isn't interrupted). They hibernate in the winter, and if I just left them outside they wouldn't be able to dig deep enough to escape the frozen earth.
This is British Columbia, so it is a rather wet climate, somewhat humid but not as humid as where hermies come from. We do get hot dry periods in the summer (contrary to popular belief). The other day it got over 100F outside. It's best to keep the snails out of direct sunlight, but they do like to be able to see the blue sky and feel the fresh air.
Oh, and gotta make sure that they are under cover when it rains! Those cages would fill up fast and they'd be aquatic snails
