I assume that they would go here.

A few years ago, I used to own two large Oregon Forest snails. My dad found them out in the bush and brought them home for me. He named them Cecil and Hubert. These snails are asexual so you can name them whatever you like and it always fits their gender. Well, Cecil and Hubert had babies. About 20 of them. I studied these little guys for a year or two, but due to holes in their roof, they ended up "running" away. I still remember one, Dexter, who was born with only one eye. He was a cutie.

But anyways, the main topic of my post...

Ladies and gentlemen, please meet Little Cecillia Marie

Those are some pretty large snails!  I never thought of keeping land snails before, I've always kept aquatic ones.  Although when I was little I was always disappointed we never had any living out in the garden and my friends did.

Mostly just plants. Their favourate is big leaf maple, but they'll eat other wild plants too. They also really like the strawberries in my mom's garden, hah. They will also munch on the bones of dead animals whenever they can find them, because they need the calcium for their shell.

Yep, they're one of largest species of land snails in North America (I think in the world, even). My mom has a hard enough time trying to keep them away, let alone miss their presence. I try my best not to let her poison them, so I think she usually just puts out stuff that smells bad to them or something like that.

You're right, very little is known about them. They have very little of the public's intrest and though they are endangered, they have no economic value so it isn't a big concern to most people.

There are a couple sites with some information, though.
