I am so excited that I just HAVE to announce it!! After a lot of researching and thinking about it, yesterday my husband and I put down a deposit on a 1 month old baby African Grey! We have to wait for it to be weaned, but in the mean time we're getting ready for it.  I can't wait!

I'm a little nervous bc I've never had one before, and I'm trying to learn all I can. We bought a cage yesterday too, now we just have to get it home and set up.   Next month we're going to be getting it DNA sexed so by the time we bring it home we'll know what it is.  I'm wracking my brains for a name now.  It 'honked" like a goose the whole time I held it.  The store girls are calling it "Honker" for now, but I really don't like that, even if it IS fitting!  I'm planning on going to visit as much  as I can so it will know me by the time I bring it home.  I feel like I just had a new baby that can't leave the hospital yet Smiley

I'm curious to what feathers develop on the baby at what time but I can't find any pictures of  babies at different stages of growth.  My baby is a month old, he was hatched on Valentine's day.  If anyone has any pics of babies at 5 wks, 6 wks, and so on I'd be really happy! Smiley  Also, what to expect at what times for coordination and mental development too.

Oh wow congratulations on the new baby African Grey, it's so tiny right now! I always wanted to own one some day, I'm so jealous. You will have to keep us updated with news on him / her. Smiley

As for names I have ask if you checked out the pet name list we have here? We have some female and male pet names that might give you some inspirations.

He's developing SO fast! I can't believe how fast he grows either.  We decided to name him "Jingle" because the gray and copper colored feathers remind me of a handful of change. Smiley

I'm going to see him in the morning before work and I can't wait to see what he does.  Last time I saw him he had discovered his own toes and was playing with them.

I finally found a link with a week by week description of how he is going to be growing:

I change things around everyweek. Grey's get into a routine and have a tendency to freak when change occurs. We have found our grey's as they have gotten older prefer to entertain themselves, too much handeling causes neediness and better if they learn to play and entertain themselves. They like out time but on their terms and usually not for long periods of time. Smart acrlic toys are best and we make wood toys with Fleece and acrlics they love to chew and dismantle.
One minute they dislike me, next they love me, so if you dont like the reaction, just wait it out patiently they will change.

What measures have you taken to prevent them from escaping?

We have had to reverse the screw/ washer/nut on water bottles, due to they can unscrew screws and drop bottles to floor.
On feed doors we have had to put springs connected with c hooks, because no matter how tight we tighten screws they can unscrew. Safety cage locks the can open so safety swing tabs that swing at top of doors have to be used as well as a long one screwed into cage so it blocks pans from being slid out.
