My husband saw our cat scooting this morning. I did notice that he had some runny stools too.

From my reading, I learned it could be a couple things.

1) Anal sacs. I thought this was more of a dog problem but I read that cats can get it too! If their anal glands need to be expressed they will scoot just like a dog will.
2) Tapeworms. I did look for segments in the butt-smear he left on my kitchen floor (lol) but didn't see any. However I didn't look close enough for eggs. I'll probably poke around in his litter box later.
3) Cleaning problems. I read that sometimes cats will do this if they can't get extra debris off their rear. So their solution to this is scooting around. I think that this might be the most likely case in my cat's situation since he had runny poo... he probably felt he couldn't lick it all off so he resorted to rubbing it on my floors.

Thankfully he didn't decide to do it on my rugs or carpet or furniture.

I'll be keeping a close eye on him and his stool for the next few days to make sure this isn't a health problem. I did notice that he's been chewing on some of my plants so this might be why he's having diarrhea.

Monet does this every once and a while on my carpet. I always go for the lysol when she's done. She doesn't have worms, not to sure about the glands. I will bring it up on her next vet visit though.

He hasn't done it since, so I'm pretty sure (and definitely hoping) this was a one-time occurance. Hehe Smiley
